Omega-3 Fatty Acids for Dogs

There are three important types of omega-3s for dogs: ALA, EPA and DHA.

Alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, comes from plant sources, like seeds, nuts and vegetables. This type of omega is actually a precursor to the other types of omega-3s, meaning the body turns ALA into EPA and DHA. Dog bodies aren’t very efficient at converting ALA to the other two types, so ALA isn’t the best omega-3 fatty acid for dogs. 

Eicosapentaenoic acid, or EPA, and docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, are much better options for dogs. These types of omega-3s come mainly from aquatic creatures such as fish and algae. We provide a healthy source of EPA & DHA in our blend. 

Omega-6 Fatty Acids for Dogs

Omega-6 fatty acids are found in animal and plant sources, even in common sources that are often included in commercial dog foods. They’re an important component in cellular structure, and they are necessary for dogs to stay healthy. We add a bonus amount of Omega 6 into our blends to assist those that want to feed total fresh food, but if you mix with your kibble there is enough there to further boost your dog’s health. 

Calcium

Calcium contributes to healthy bones and teeth, muscle building and function, a strong heart, and a healthy nervous system. Dogs, like other animals and people, do not produce vitamins and minerals naturally. This means that they have to get calcium through their diets.

Potassium

Potassium is a vital electrolyte for dogs that helps with many functions in their bodies, including:

• Electrical charges: Potassium helps electrical charges function in the heart, muscles, and nerves.
• Blood homeostasis: Potassium and sodium work together to maintain homeostasis in the blood and prevent dehydration.
• Kidney function: Potassium helps keep the kidneys functioning normally.
• Digestion: Potassium is important for normal digestion.

Vitamin E 

Vitamin E has many benefits for dogs, including:

• Cell membrane protection: Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes throughout the body.
• Immune system health: Vitamin E helps keep the immune system healthy.
• Fertility: Vitamin E improves fertility.
• Skin and coat: Vitamin E can help with dry or itchy skin. You can apply vitamin E topically to localized skin problems, or add vitamin E oil to your dog's bath water.
• Vision: Vitamin E deficiency can lead to vision problems.
• Muscles: Vitamin E helps maintain healthy muscles and bones.
• Liver disorders: Vitamin E supplements are often prescribed for animals with necroinflammatory or cholestatic liver disorders.
